An archeological dig on the island of Minorca reveals human remains where none were expected, seeting in motion a more personal sort of excavation on the part of one of the archeologists. As the past is unearthed, boundaries--personal and professional, national and ethnic--are set, crossed, and broken in the attempt to define the identity of a woman misplaced.
